March 16, 1940 was the date that articles of incorporation were filed with the Secretary of State of Iowa, by Roy E. Bazire on behalf of the Consumers Cooperative Society, and so, officially began our cooperative. The 66 years that have followed have seen changes that could only be described as unimaginable by the small group of University of Iowa employees who organized a buyers club to help make ends meet during the pinch of the great depression.
Looking back, Consumers Cooperative Society has seen so much progress, and change that it boggles the mind. The company that started despite all advice to the contrary is now a multimillion dollar operation boasting the finest equipment, some 25 highly trained employees, and a future that is as solid as the commitment of the people who have worked and planned to bring us to the point where we are today. Consumers Cooperative Society has lasted through the Great Depression, World War II, fire, flood, and theft. It has bounced back from adversity more than once, and is always stronger and wiser for the effort. As we look back with pride at the last 66 years, it is important to keep an eye to the horizon, watching for the course that will take us smoothly and profitably far into the next millennium.
Our north office is located at 3500 2nd Street Coralville.
